Chasing Waterfalls: A Journey of Discovery

After moving to a new city, I realized that exploring various places in and around my location is the best way to gain a deeper understanding of the city, its culture, and its people.

I’m thrilled to have found the perfect travel buddies who share my passion for discovery. On the weekend, we spontaneously decided to visit a nearby waterfall, 25km from my home, after our temple visit plans fell through at the last minute.

We took a local bus towards Uppinangadi via Adyar. Unfamiliar with the area, we got off one stop too early and walked extra. When we reached the junction to turn left (as per Google Maps, 500m to the falls), we stumbled upon an auto stand. The auto drivers, familiar with the route, offered to help. Confident in their expertise, we opted for the auto to reach the falls.

The auto driver dropped us at a stunning viewpoint and, when we asked him about the waterfall’s location, he directed us to check with the boys standing nearby, who would show us the way. He then immediately left after collecting the auto fare.

Although awestruck by the beautiful view, we were disappointed not to find any sign of the waterfall. We were also unhappy with the driver who offered to guide us to the waterfall but left us midway. We had two choices in front of us, either to go back without seeing the waterfall or gather some courage and move forward to see where exactly the falls is located. Determined to see it, we chose the latter. The narrow, steep path, surrounded by forest and unfamiliar terrain, made us question our decision. But, as they say, “difficult paths lead to beautiful destinations.” And indeed, we finally reached the breathtaking waterfall, a true wonderland.

The biggest takeaway from this trip is, we all are given plenty of opportunities and it’s up to us to make use of them. As always new opportunities bring in new obstacles. All we have to do is trust the process and keep moving, because the end result is worth all the effort that goes in.

And traveling is the best form of self discovery πŸ™‚
